The Barking Bear
Thank you for checking out my website. After working for over 20 years in the electrical engineering industry, I took the scary decision to develop my hobby into a small business. So, in November 2022, with the loving support of my wife and best friend Imelda, Barking Bear Design was formed. When we moved to Ballinaclash in Co. Wicklow a few years ago, this city boy's eyes were opened. Seeing every star in the clear skies at night and daily walks in the forest gave me the space and inspiration to experiment and develop my work into what you see today. It helps too when operating loud machinery to have no neighbours! Nature has provided a beautiful and sustainable material for us to use and respect. The satisfaction I get when creating a new product from raw pieces of rough hardwood, seeing the natural and unique beauty of the grain coming alive is something I want to share with others.

What I do
I endeavour to offer my customers something special, unique and most importantly handcrafted. I believe that in a world increasingly dominated by technology, having something physical with a character and story of its own to use, hold and admire is more important than ever. My range of hardwood cutting boards come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and I also offer a selection of wooden crafts and gifts for all occasions. No piece of wood should be seen as waste either, so in an effort to utilise all that our forests have provided, I make one off pieces from off cuts of wood, giving new life to old wood.
Make it Personal
Why settle for Maple if your favourite wood is Cherry? If you want to change it up and make your piece more special, drop me an email and we can discuss the different wood options available. If you are looking for personalized gifts for him or her, I offer a laser burning service to add that personal touch to any cutting board or gift.
My Team
No small business would be successful without a committed workforce you can rely on. My dedicated crew make it possible for me to focus on the building by taking care of the jobs I just don't have time for. On the left is Echo, head of security, pest control and hygiene. On the right is Hank, my head of customer relations and catering as well as chief puppy customs officer clearing all raw material deliveries for use in the workshop. I couldn't do it without you good boys!
